Home, where is home? What do you call home?
For me home will always be Arkansas, and Arauca, and well, now Bogotá. It’s crazy how fast you can adapt and how it doesn’t take long for a place to feel like home.Right now I am heading “home” to Bogotá. (Once you have several homes you have to specify which home you’re talking about😉.) I was in Argentina for 10 days, mas o menos, doing a short term mission trip close to Buenos Aires. The people we were working with in Argentina have started a mission (Vos También) to create a home for girls who have suffered human trafficking. Buenos Aires has some of the highest rates in human trafficking in South America.
Vos También recently bought a property to use as offices and a guest house for future short term workers. Our team got to help clean up the property and get it ready for the staff to live in.
As we worked together we also talked together and heard their stories: How God called them to the work they are now doing, Different ways God has miraculously provided for them, And just wonderful insights on missions and life in general. I come away from there feeling very blessed, grateful for the opportunity to have served God in this way, and like I have another home, in Argentina.
The people I met in Argentina were very friendly and welcoming. They accepted us like family and laughed and talked with us amidst broken Spanish, or English, and cultural differences. In Argentina they have a different accent and use some different words so it was fun learning a new way of talking. Also, because college in Argentina is free, students come from the surrounding countries to study. At church on Sunday we had Argentinians, Brazilians, Peruvians, Colombians, Americans, Angolans, and probably more. Songs were sung in English, Spanish, and/or Portuguese and the sermon was both Spanish and English. It was fun seeing the global church in this way and being reminded anew how God loves all people and how he can understand everyone no matter what the language or culture.
