Dear Diary 4 (perfect cookies and music)

Bolivian sunset from the church

July 1, 2023

 Dear Diary,

My first real morning in Bolivia. I got up at 7:00 and then we started breakfast prep at 7:30.

The other girls came over at 8:00. Then we ate, had a time of worship, and talked about the day. The girls decided to learn the song “I have Decided to Follow Jesus” in Spanish so we’ve been practicing that.

The morning was mostly spent in making monster and chocolate chip cookies. Some of the girls went to the market while the cookies baked. In the afternoon we went to the church to get things ready for the music students. We made cookies and hot chocolate to raise money for the music school.

We washed some dishes, cleaned up a classroom for the music students to wait in, and made the hot chocolate and a sign for our selling venture. We sold some cookies before the “concert” and then went in to listen. Most of the children played the violin and played different songs according to their level.
At the end the teacher talked about how one violinist can play a song and their music is nice.. When you have two playing, you can have more sounds and it is prettier. But when you get a whole orchestra and have all the parts it is the most beautiful. Then all the students got up front with the teachers and played a song.
It is a good life reminder that, one person can do a good job and is necessary, but with a whole group we can do greater things. I really like thinking of that with team life. Each of us has a part to play. With God’s help I want to do my best.

After the violinists finished we girls sang a couple songs and then went back out to sell more cookies and hot chocolate. It was fun to talk to church people and learn who they are, etc. I’m looking forward to seeing them tomorrow.

Now all we need to do is clean up and then we’ll go home, eat a little something, talk about our day, and go to bed.  Tomorrow is Sunday so they’ll probably want us to sing some more.
