Belize

And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

Belize

Several years ago my family actually had the privilege of visiting Belize. English is the official language in Belize so most of the time we could understand people but some Belizians speak Spanish and creole, also.

A few other random facts about Belize mixed in with some pictures from our time there.
The capital of Belize is Belmopan.
Belize is home to the second largest barrier reef in the world.
Belize is ranked as one of the happiest countries in the world.
Belize is Central America's most thinly populated country with around 385,854 people living there.
More than 90% of the people in Belize can read.
There are no McDonald's, Starbucks, or KFC in Belize.
The Mayans were the first people to live in Belize.

The longest river in Belize is the Belize River.

Hillside Health Care International is a non-profit organization that provides medical help for the people in Southern Belize.

They help people and provide medicine and helpful training for free so one way we can help them is to donate money to help them keep going. We can also pray that the workers would be a good witness to the patients they meet every day and that people would receive spiritual healing along with the physical help they are getting. If you’re interested in learning more about what Hillside is doing in Belize, want to discover more needs, or ways you can help click the link above.

today we're going to make a zipper purse

 What you'll need:

Sewing machine

scissors

pins

thread

zipper

#1. Start with the zipper shut. First trim the end of the zipper so that it is straight.
#2. fold the zipper up the length that you want your bag.
#3. Sew up the pinned side and then
#4. Turn the zipper side to align with the zipper end
and sew across the end of the zipper so it can't open and
to make the bottom of the bag.

In the next three pictures I tried to show what happens next after you sew the end of the zipper down turn the zipper side again and sew all the way up to the other end.

#2. At some point I usually disconnect purse and unzip the zipper and then continue sewing the two parts together. (#3.)

#1. Sew until you are as close to the end of the zipper but where the zipper head lines up with the "corner" of the bottom of the purse.
#2. You can zip the zipper to make sure it's working every now and then. Trim off the extra to make it straight.
#3. Unzip the zipper and turn the side of the zipper to align with the end of the zipper and sew across it.
#4. loop the extra zipper around so that the end lines up right beside the other end. ( I hope you're not too confused, it's easier than it sounds and probably would be easier if you're just doing it than reading directions, hopefully)
#5. Now pull the unsewn sides together and sew them together.

When all the sewing is done it should look like this when it is unzipped.
Zip it up and it should look something like this. These are neat little coin purses, you can keep something in them or just use it as a toy and have fun "taking it a part".

Something I think would be fun to try sometime is to make a purse with a sleeping bag zipper. Try it sometime and let me know how it works. 😀

I certainly have a lot of good memories growing up in Belize. But what a curious fact, that Belize is one of the happiest countries? It makes me wonder, what sort of polls measure happiness in a country? But I’m thankful we can have “the joy of the Lord” in our lives where ever we may live. Thanks for writing, Vanessa, I enjoyed reading this.

I have a pastor friend who is a missionary to Belize. He loves being there. Maybe because it is such a happy place! :) Interesting info! Thank you for sharing Vanessa!
